About the studio

Six workshops, one stockroom

Haven UK started in 2014 as a Saturday stall in Camden Passage, selling seconds from a potter who could not keep up with a larger order. The stall became a shop, the shop became a stockroom, and the rule stayed the same: keep the list short and go back to the same people.

We now work with six workshops — three in England, one in Scotland, two in Jutland — and hold everything in a single stockroom behind the shop. Orders are packed there, by the same three people who unpack the deliveries.

How we work

Four rules we do not bend

1. Same maker, next batch

If something sells out we wait for the same workshop rather than substituting. Waiting lists are by email and never charged in advance.

2. Parts, not replacements

Lids, hinges, wicks, cords and feet are held for five years. Send a photo and we post the part; there is no charge for the first one.

3. Measurements published

Every product card lists height, diameter, weight and capacity. If a dimension is missing, we measure the shelf copy and reply the same day.

4. Honest seconds

Pieces with a glaze run or a tool mark are sold as seconds with the fault photographed and named, at roughly two-thirds of the first price.

The workshops

Where things are made

  • Stoke-on-Trent — stoneware tableware, third generation, 11 staff.
  • Yorkshire — turned oak lighting and boxes, two-person workshop.
  • Devon — galvanised garden ware, pressed and hand-soldered.
  • Harris — wool throws, woven on treadle looms.
  • Jutland (DK) — linen and cotton weaving, family mill since 1958.
  • London — cutting, finishing and packing in the studio behind the shop.

We visit each workshop at least twice a year and publish a short note after every visit. The notes are kept in the shop, not online.
